How would you describe your musical style? Sade + Jill Scott + Little Dragon = Me! My colorful palette consists of soul, electronic, bedroom r&b. I write honest lyrics, no need to beat around the bush, just get to the point.
Who inspires your music? Lianne La Havas, Rosie Lowe, Abra, Sade, The Internet, Jessy Lanza, Minnie Riperton, Jade, Xavier Omar, Tune-Yards, the list goes on. I make a new playlist every month and will keep listening to the same artist for awhile.
When did you discover that you wanted to become a performer/artist? I knew I wanted to be an artist at a very young age. I didn’t know how I was going to get there, but I knew I was meant for the stage. I come alive as soon as I hit that stage! Like a totally different person.
How would you describe the Dallas music scene? There are a lot fresh, new faces on the Dallas scene. I’ve just recently listened to Sam Lao and I’m a fan! I love Ronnie Heart, Somebody’s Darling, Texas Gentlemen, Snarky Puppy, Quentin Moore (helped me produce my first single, “Darling” years ago!) and I can’t forget my ride or die homie, Leon Bridges!
When it comes to style, what would we find in your closet right now? You would find two pairs of overalls (which I wear on a daily basis), my small Angela Scott shoe collection, my burger shirt that I bought from Melbourne and probably a bag of bacon jerky in one of my purses!
If you could choose an artist (alive or passed) to perform with, who would it be? Omg! Anyone who really knows me, knows that it would definitely be Natalie Cole! I’ve been a fan of hers since I was nine years old.
