Ravs is breaking ground and turning heads with her new age style of rap music. As a recent University of Missouri graduate, she plans to use her soulful lyrics and warm, yet deliberate, voice to inspire those around her.
How would you describe your sound?
Who are you currently listening to?
Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, to Miles Davis, Otis Redding and Nina Simone
What is it like being an artist in the DFW music scene?
I don't have much knowledge outside of doing the occasional open mic when I've been in town for the holidays, but know there's A LOT here. I believe the most powerful thing about music is that it brings people together to share an experience. So I'm extremely excited to start booking some shows and meeting everyone in the scene.
Your musical inspiration?
I could die happily if I got to meet Erykah Badu. My first concert was attending the free show put on right outside of the DMA she performed at back in 2007. Just being able to meet her and thank her for putting Dallas on the map while staying true to herself is the most inspirational thing I have been able to witness. I would also ask her thoughts on the industry today and what it means to be a woman in the industry.
What can we expect to see from you in 2017?
I have no specific plans other than to just get out and play. I have a lot of goals I want to accomplish, one being to record an EP, but first comes understanding the music scene I'm about to dive into and seeing what opportunities lie here. There have been a lot of changes in the past year so in 2017, I want to give myself time to breathe the fresh Southern air and get a good grasp on my voice and my sound. But, overall, I just want to improve every aspect of what I have to offer.
